So many issues... such strong opinions

Everyone has such strong opinions about everything. That's fine when the opinions involve how to decorate one's home or what is the best dish served by your neighborhood restaurant. It seems to be quite a different story when the issues involve whether there is a danger that the temperature of the earth will rise to the point of rising the level of the sea to a point somewhere around the 40th floor of the Chrysler Building. Maybe it will and maybe it won't, but doesn't it seem important to try to collect the information that gets us to the best answer? Or what about our policy in Iraq? Is it good, sound foreign policy that will ultimately serve to keep America safe or is it instead actually threatening our national security? Shouldn't each of us truly want to know the actual best answer to this question rather than take the position that you think your party affiliation would want you to take?

And hence, this blog. I beseech the community at large (or the two or three individuals who might read and even respond to this blog) to provide to me an even-handed, objective case for a few issues that we tee up. I would like to stick to issues that appear to have front page status, but I would be other, less prominent ones if some of the contributors feel the urge to address them. Let's start with the two that I alluded to in my introductory paragraph: Global Warming (a scientific one) and the War in Iraq (a polital one).

I will start with my thoughts on the War in my next post.
